Can surgery restore my hearing?

March 1, 2018 • Ask the Audiologists, Newsletter

For adults with hearing loss, only about 5% can be treated with ear surgery. However, surgical procedures are available, depending on the type and degree of hearing loss. Although Audiologists are not medical doctors, we are trained to provide a thorough diagnostic hearing evaluation. Based on the test results, we will advise you of your treatment options, including medical treatment and/or hearing aids.

If test results suggest that medication or surgery might improve your hearing, we will refer you to an Ear, Nose and Throat Physician to investigate your options. If medical treatment is not recommended, you may return to us to discuss hearing aids and other assistive devices to improve your hearing.
