What happens if I lose my hearing aid?

July 1, 2018 • Ask the Audiologists, Newsletter

If you can’t find your hearing aid after a thorough search of your house, car and pet hiding places (dogs love to eat hearing aids and cats love to hide them!), contact your audiologist for advice.

Most manufacturers’ warranties cover loss of a hearing aid for a specific time period after purchase. A replacement fee must be paid, but the manufacturer will replace the instrument once during the period of coverage. If the loss warranty is no longer in effect, you should check with your homeowners/renters insurance agent, to see if a lost hearing aid is covered under your policy.

Once you have replaced a lost hearing aid, you might consider purchasing hearing aid insurance, to cover the replacement instrument against loss. All of this can be confusing, so depend on your audiologist for guidance. Please let us know if we can help.
