How long should my hearing aids last?

With good care, we expect hearing aids to last up to five years. If a mechanical problem occurs beyond the five year mark, we recommend replacement rather than repair. Some people like to replace their devices more often, to take advantage of updated technology. Since better technology is introduced every 2-3 years, they are ensuring that they are always receiving the best benefit possible. Other people upgrade their hearing aids when their hearing needs change.

An individual’s communication needs might change due to a decline in hearing or from a change in listening situations, for example if they start a new job or move to a community living environment. By seeing your audiologist at least once a year for a hearing aid check, you can decide together when it’s time for new hearing aids.
