Protecting Your Identity
The “Red Flags Rule,” a law the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) began to enforce on January 1, 2011, requires certain businesses and organizations to develop a written program to spot the warning signs — or “red flags” — of identity theft.
We at Hampden Hearing Center are working hard to develop processes to ensure the privacy and protection of our patients’ personal information. Recent policy changes at the FTC exempt health care providers (including audiologists) from this regulation. Even though we are not required by law to comply, our office policy will remain to protect our patients’ privacy and strive to avoid medical identity theft and fraud.
